BRAHMS Trio for piano, violin and horn in E flat major, op. 40
Brahms delights in showcasing the unique beauty and intimate poetry of the lower tessituras. Here, he pays homage to the horn and the viola. The former, evoking the legendary forests so beloved of the romantics and imbued with the composer's love for nature, inspired an unusual trio, showcasing the skills of Stefan Dohr, the Berliner Philharmoniker's solo horn. Timothy Ridout's viola, in the final chamber music opus, offers an alternative voice to the clarinet that is suggested by the composer. To accompany these favoured timbres, the piano, an instrument in which Brahms was a virtuoso, will be entrusted to three exceptional performers. The first sonata from opus 120 may be experienced in its original version on 4th July.
