KRÁSA Brundibár, opera for children
Magical, cunning animals, united schoolchildren, intrigue drawn from The Musicians of Bremen and Hansel and Gretel, a barrel organ and feigned innocence: Brundibár is an opera created by the Czech composer Hans Krása to be enjoyed and performed by children. Created in the Terezín concentration camp in 1944, this song of hope and courage has become one of the most frequently staged musical tales, a timeless life lesson opposing oppression and indifference. Local talents – Chœur des Élèves du Conservatoire d’Évian, Orchestre de l’Opéra de Lyon – perform with the Maîtrise Populaire de l’Opéra-Comique, directed by Louis Langrée and staged by Muriel Mayette-Holtz and Jean-Claude Berutti. Brundibár will be preceded by a Christmas story by Jean-Claude Grumberg, whose pen is prolific across theatre and cinema genres.
