PROKOFIEV Flute sonata in D major, Op. 94
A sonata from 1778, one of Mozart's best known for the violin, here adapted for the flute; a romantic opus inspired by La Motte-Fouqué's fairytale, whose poetic scenes share with us the ill-fated love affairs of a mermaid; and to finish, a piece from 1943, whose destiny took an opposite form to the Mozart piece, transposed for the violin a posteriori at David Oistrakh's request. Emmanuel Pahud, principal flautist at the Berliner Philharmoniker, unanimously praised soloist and deeply committed chamber musician, regularly performs this masterpiece from his instrument’s repertoire. Denis Kozhukhin is also a regular performer of Prokofiev, but his varied recordings demonstrate how his piano willingly crosses the frontiers of the Russian repertoire.
